Dr. Doi is an Innovator in Patient Care
Sharing a passion for advancing holistic dentistry, Dr. Doi is proud to have developed numerous techniques and practices for patient safety and comfort.
These include:
- A safety loop for crowns to prevent swallowing them during fittings.
- The concept of body propping, which is a technique Dr. Doi developed to make dental appointments more relaxing. On behalf of Bucky Pillow, he promoted this technique nationally to other dentists.
- The use of ceiling art, which Dr. Doi first employed more than 25 years ago, was embraced nationally by dental suppliers and dentists.
- The development of Hawaiian print scrubs, which Dr. Doi led the industry in creating more than 30 years ago.
David T. Doi, DDS

Getting to Know Dr. David Doi
Over 50 years of practice and professional development allow me to treat my dental patients with the expertise they expect and deserve. I enjoy what I do. The wealth of experience and techniques I honed over the years have helped me diagnose and treat a variety of issues, so I am confident that I am able to fulfill my role as a competent health care provider.
I am often asked, “When do you plan on retiring?” I answer that I am in active retirement. While I remain passionate about my career, my schedule is carefully planned to ensure balance and fulfillment in all aspects of my life. I am invigorated by research and new techniques about holistic approaches to health and dentistry. Fortunately my profession is people-oriented. Interacting with my patients and building strong relationships with them bring me immense satisfaction, and many times I feel that I am going to visit friends who appreciate me when I go to work.
Many activities keep me physically, mentally, and spiritually engaged. I walk my dogs, swim, jog, practice yoga and Pilates, spin, and lift weights. Vacation breaks keep me inspired and rejuvenated. Visits with the kids and grandkids are priceless moments. I carve time for three hobbies which are traveling, photography, and creating photo travelogues. Exposure to other places and cultures foster lifelong learning and make me a better person.
I am grateful that all my employees play an integral role in patient care. I support the team in my practice to provide a breadth of friendly, efficient, and quality services. The hygienists participate in continuing education opportunities on a regular basis, and the dental assistants receive training in best practices. The office staff work hard to keep the operations running smoothly.
Keeping purpose and passion alive in everything I do is what keeps me young at heart and mind, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the community with enthusiasm and dedication.
